Good Morning Star shine/ the earth says hello

There was an incredible sunrise this morning, with pinks and blues streaming across the sky. The cloud formations were amazing.. I couldn't help myself, I grabbed my camera to document it.

Saturday and Snow Again. Very Few Estate Sales during these cold wintry weekends. I did find some wonderful treasures last weekend. It's comforting to see that some people are bigger pack-rats than I am.... I'm running out of space, Need to create some assemblages and use this up, but can't seem to pull myself away from these portraits, that seem to keep calling to me.!!

"Laura" didn't appear on my canvas until I finished the eyes, with the highlights ! Then , she suddenly presented herself !!

Off School today!-- Snow and Ice Storm !!

I was able to paint and relax after getting the call that school had been called off because of the ice storm ( Our school depends on bus service for most of our students. We will probably have to make it up at the end of May, unless we have a couple extra days built in to our calendar.....

I got a good start on Laura's pic, and finished Brittany pretty much. The blonde hair was challenging, but allowed me to work light over dark for depth and interest. It was fun......

I finally got the NEW version of blogger to work. There was a button I had to push, that I hadn't quite discovered I needed to.!

Anyway , here's the beginning of Laura's portrait, and hopefully I will get a bit of time this week to work on the color. This is day 100 of the last days of my teaching career...... I'll miss it, and my friends. Change can be a good thing, if we embrace it.

Here's a start on Laura's portrait. Laura's dad is my brother-in-law (Lin's hubby) and she is a sweet, darling, mother of two adorable little girls, and is married to one of my son's good friends and fraternity brothers. Small world, huh ??

Nikki

I was blessed with a day off yesterday (Friday) and worked on this newest portrait. I got to visit my sis, and sit with her while she had to lay flat on her back for hours, and hours, after that heart procedure. It should regulate her heart from now on, enabling her to quit taking the medicine she has always taken to assure her heart rate. WOW- she wasn't at all afraid, I'm sure I would have been a big cry baby about it. She doesn't rate herself as stoic, But, I DO. You're a champ, Big Linnie, and I PRIZE you, that I get to be YOUR SISTER...

Here's the results of my efforts, yesterday in the studio......

I had taken some pictures of Nikki with a traditional headpiece from Thailand, but in the end decided I liked the regular pose better. Nikki is half German, and half Thailandese ( I'm not sure how to write this)- anyway, she is a great kid, and her brother was super, too. Both are very talented artists, and are wonderful students to have in my class.

weekend update

We had quite a nice shower/superbowl party on Sunday at Lins. All the family got to enjoy the game, the baby shower, cake and all the trimmings. Meanwhile, I've been busy painting !- everything from Ted and Diane's server, to a bassinet, changing table, and high chair for MY house. yeah !!!
The bassinet and changing table- $5. each at a sale, and the high chair, an impressive find for 20, at my favorite, Goodwill, of course !
